Celebrating the Appointment of Arkaroola’s First Chief Geoscientist
A new role to inspire, educate, and protect the Flinders Ranges.
The Arkaroola Education & Research Foundation, together with Arkaroola Senior Management, is proud to announce the creation of a new voluntary position — Chief Geoscientist for the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.

We
are thrilled to share that Steve Hore, Senior Geologist with the Geological Survey of South Australia, has accepted this inaugural role. This appointment recognises Steve’s exceptional expertise and deep knowledge of the region’s unique geology.
As Chief Geoscientist, Steve will continue to play an important role in guiding and educating visitors, researchers, and the wider community on the science behind South Australia’s spectacular Flinders Ranges. His leadership will further strengthen Arkaroola’s commitment to conservation, research, and education.
The Arkaroola Education & Research Foundation was established to support scientific research, environmental stewardship, and educational programs that help protect and celebrate this extraordinary landscape. Steve’s appointment reflects the Foundation’s ongoing mission to collaborate with leading experts to share knowledge and inspire future generations.
Congratulations, Steve — we couldn’t have chosen a better person for the role.
